History

Singer Sana began her music career as a backing vocalist after winning an audition organized by Talent Agency Smile in 2014. This milestone gave her the opportunity to step into the world of music. In 2016, she performed as a vocalist in the Mob Choir Unit for the opening theme of the anime series Mob Psycho 100, marking a significant step in her successful music career.

In 2018, Sho Watanabe formed a rock band named Sajou no Hana, with Tatsuya Kitani playing the bass and Sana lending her voice. The band’s name, Sajou no Hana, was conceived by Kitani, inspired by Sana’s image and singing style. The name used Latin letters instead of Japanese text to avoid prejudices while listening to their music. Sana liked the name because it sounded beautiful and symbolized a flower blooming in a barren land (砂上の花 – “Flower on Sand”). The group did not provide an official meaning for the name, encouraging listeners to interpret it in their own way.

The band’s first single, “Hoshi,” was released on August 22, 2018, and became the ending theme song for the anime series Serious the Jagger. Following this, the group released several theme songs for other anime series, including the opening theme “99.9” and the ending themes “Grey,” “Memosepia,” “Mabuta no Ura,” and “Ikiru Hitobito” for Mob Psycho 100 II.

Continued Success in 2019 and 2023

In 2019, the group released the single “Perol,” which became the ending theme for the anime series A Certain Scientific Accelerator. [8] The following year, in 2020, the band released two singles: “Orashi no Auto D” and “Evergreen.” “Orashi no Auto D” was used as the ending theme for the anime A Certain Scientific Railgun T, while “Evergreen” was featured as the ending theme for the third season of Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken.

In 2022, the band released the single “Tentō,” with the title track used as the opening theme for the anime Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Season 4). In 2023, they released two singles, “Kirikizu” and “Nuisance,” with “Kirikizu” used as the opening theme for Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Season 4), and “Nuisance” as the ending theme for the second season of Spy Classroom.

The Band's Restructuring and New Releases in 2024

At the end of 2023, it was announced that Watanabe and Kitani would leave the band in 2024, reorganizing it as a music unit centered around Sana. However, they would continue to support the project. In 2024, the unit released the song “Shura ni Otoshite” (Falling into the Carnage), which became the opening theme for the anime series Ashura.
