Sharon Crowley (American Journalist)
Sharon Crowley is an American journalist and reporter at FOX 5 New York, where she covers breaking news, general assignments, and investigative stories. She’s been doing this work for well over two decades. Crowley was born on July 27, 1977, and she picked up her first on-air role at a FOX affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina.
In May 2011, FOX 5 NY broke the news of Osama bin Laden’s death live, and Crowley was anchoring that desk when the announcement came through. Well before that night, she’d already reported from the ground during the September 11 attacks. The Boston Marathon bombings in 2013 were another major assignment on her record. And she covered the Atlanta Olympic Park bombing and the disappearance of D.C. intern Chandra Levy at earlier points across her career. That’s a wide range of national stories for someone working local market television.
Before boxing fans ever heard his name in connection with hers, Crowley had already built most of her career. Nigel Benn spent his professional boxing career winning titles at two different weight classes. The WBO middleweight belt came in 1990, and the WBC super-middleweight title followed, staying with him from 1992 through 1996. His nickname in the ring was The Dark Destroyer. Few British fighters of that era matched his title run at two weight classes. The two married in the early 1990s and separated sometime after. Crowley hasn’t discussed that chapter of her life publicly since.

Sharon Crowley Age, Early Life, and Education
Sharon Crowley age is 49 years old as of 2026, born on July 27, 1977, in the United States.
Childhood and Family Background
Growing up in the United States, Crowley kept most of her early life away from public record. No city of birth has been confirmed, and details about her parents and siblings haven’t surfaced in any available material. Her ethnicity is White-American.
What came after those early years tells the clearer story – a journalism career that moved through four cities without a single break in direction.
Educational Journey
Boston University is where Crowley earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism. She went from that program straight into local television, starting at a smaller FOX market and building from there.
The degree lined up directly with the work – breaking news, field reporting, investigative assignments across multiple markets over two decades.
Sharon Crowley FOX 5 Career, Achievements, and Awards
Sharon Crowley’s FOX 5 career in New York came after more than a decade of reporting across three other markets in the same network family.
Early Career
Raleigh, North Carolina, is where the television career began – a FOX affiliate in that market gave her the first on-air role. From there, she moved to FOX 5 Atlanta, picked up reporting experience across a second major market, then headed to Pennsylvania. FOX 29 Philadelphia is where things settled for a while. She joined that station in 1999 and worked the street beat there for eleven consecutive years. Most local market reporters don’t stay put that long – two or three years at one station is the more common pattern before moving on.
Philadelphia wasn’t a stopping point. It was where she built the bulk of her on-the-ground reporting experience. And when she eventually left in 2010, she moved to WWOR My9 in New York before landing at FOX 5 NY. Four markets, two decades, one network family throughout.
Sharon Crowley’s Role at FOX 5 New York
Sharon Crowley covers breaking news, general assignments, and investigative stories at FOX 5 New York. She joined the station from FOX 29 Philadelphia, bringing more than a decade of street reporting into one of the country’s biggest television markets.
The assignments she’s worked at FOX 5 NY carry real weight. She reported on the September 11 terrorist attacks, covered the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013, and worked stories tied to the Atlanta Olympic Park bombing. The disappearance of D.C. intern Chandra Levy was another major assignment earlier in her career. She’s also covered stories involving New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
But the single biggest moment on her FOX 5 NY record came on May 2, 2011. That’s the night President Obama announced the death of Osama bin Laden, and Crowley was anchoring the live breaking news desk when it happened. Beyond FOX 5 NY, she’s made appearances on the FOX News Channel, including segments on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, The O’Reilly Factor, and America’s Most Wanted.
Major Achievements and Awards
FOX 5 New York’s own platform describes Crowley as an award-winning journalist. The specific awards aren’t part of her public record, but the designation comes directly from her employer, not from outside commentary. Two decades across four markets, national cable appearances, and a front-row seat to some of the most significant news events of the last thirty years — that’s the actual record behind the title.
The clearest single example is May 2, 2011. Anchoring a live breaking news broadcast for a major market station on the night a sitting president announces the death of the world’s most wanted man isn’t a routine assignment. Crowley held that desk. That moment sits at the top of her career timeline and it isn’t close.
Sharon Crowley Net Worth and Salary
Sharon Crowley’s net worth is estimated at around $1 million, accumulated through more than two decades of broadcast journalism across four different markets.
All salary and net worth figures presented below are estimates based on publicly available information and third-party reporting.
Sharon Crowley’s Salary
Reporters working at major FOX market stations in New York with Crowley’s level of experience typically earn somewhere between $80,000 and $120,000 a year. Her estimated annual figure lands at $94,200. Two decades in the business across four different markets puts her well within that bracket.
Sharon Crowley’s Net Worth
Two decades of broadcast work across four markets tend to add up, and Crowley’s career is a clean example of that. She started at a FOX affiliate in Raleigh, moved through FOX 5 Atlanta, spent eleven years at FOX 29 Philadelphia, and eventually landed at FOX 5 New York. No known outside ventures or endorsements are attached to her public profile. The estimated figure of $1 million comes from the journalism career alone.
Sharon Crowley Husband, Marriage, and Personal Life
Sharon Crowley’s husband was British boxing champion Nigel Benn, a two-weight world title holder who competed professionally from 1987 through 1996.
Sharon Crowley and Nigel Benn
Nigel Gregory Benn spent nine years competing professionally, from 1987 through 1996, and left the sport with two world title reigns behind him. The WBO middleweight belt came in 1990. He then moved up a weight class and took the WBC super-middleweight title, which stayed with him from 1992 through 1996. Crowds called him The Dark Destroyer throughout that run, and the name held across both championships.
Crowley married Benn in the early 1990s, when he was deep into his title years. Two world championships and a string of televised fights had already put his name in front of a national audience in Britain. That kind of profile doesn’t shrink when a marriage becomes public. The two eventually separated, and the reasons behind it haven’t entered the public record. Crowley moved on quietly and hasn’t discussed that period in any known interview since.
Sharon Crowley’s Children
Crowley and Benn have children together from their time married. The exact number and names haven’t surfaced through any reliable public source. She’s kept that part of her life away from cameras and press, and nothing confirmed has come out to change that.

Nigel Benn fought professionally in Britain from 1987 through 1996 and walked away from the sport with two world title reigns.
