Alpha Academy (Wrestler)

Alpha Academy stands tall as a formidable force within the realm of professional wrestling, showcasing the talents of its esteemed members: Chad Gable, Otis, Maxxine Dupri, and Akira Tozawa.

Within the vibrant world of WWE’s Raw brand, Gable and Otis shine as former Raw Tag Team Champions, their bond extending far beyond the squared circle. Their camaraderie traces back to 2011, a testament to their enduring friendship fostered during rigorous Olympic training in Colorado Springs. Now, not only do they conquer the ring together, but they also share the same neighborhood, solidifying their connection both in and out of the ring.

The stable’s ranks swelled with the addition of Akira Tozawa, heralded as a “junior member” in an exclusive digital unveiling prior to the October 23 episode of Raw. Eager to prove his mettle, Tozawa stepped up to face Bronson Reed in a match, albeit tasting defeat. Undeterred, his journey led him to Night 1 of NXT: Halloween Havoc, where he orchestrated a daring heist, absconding with Noam Dar’s NXT Heritage Cup. However, Tozawa’s ambitions were met with a setback as he ultimately succumbed to Dar’s prowess, falling short in a valiant effort under British Round Rules.

Meanwhile, Maxxine Dupri found herself entangled in high-stakes encounters of her own. Teaming up with Ivy Nile from Diamond Mine, she entered a fatal-four way tag team bout vying for a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on the November 20 episode of Raw. Despite their collective prowess, victory eluded them. Yet, Nile’s loyalty shone brightly as she valiantly rushed to Dupri’s aid during a heated confrontation with Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, showcasing unwavering solidarity amidst adversity.

Dupri’s quest for glory reached a crescendo at the Royal Rumble on January 27, 2024, marking her debut in the prestigious event. Stepping into the fray as the 18th entrant, she displayed resilience, enduring over six minutes of grueling competition before bowing out at the hands of eventual victor Bayley.

[Additional Information: The Alpha Academy’s dynamic presence extends beyond the confines of the ring, captivating audiences with their skillful maneuvers and compelling narratives. Their journey, marked by triumphs and setbacks, serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of camaraderie and perseverance in the world of professional wrestling.

History

On the November 13, 2020 episode of SmackDown, Chad Gable introduced the “Alpha Academy,” paying homage to his past partnership with Jason Jordan in American Alpha, and enlisted Otis as his protege. Their debut on the December 11 episode saw them face Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura, resulting in a loss. However, they quickly found success at TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs, joining forces with Big E and Daniel Bryan to triumph over Cesaro, Nakamura, King Corbin, and Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn in an electrifying eight-man tag team match.

In a shocking turn of events on the February 19, 2021 episode of SmackDown, Gable instructed Otis to launch a vicious assault on Rey Mysterio following their tag team encounter, marking their transition into villainous roles.

During the 2021 Draft in October, the rebranded Alpha Academy, comprising Gable and Otis, found themselves drafted to the Raw brand. Their ascent continued when they clinched the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship on the January 10, 2022 episode of Raw, triumphing over RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle). Although they participated in the Royal Rumble match, victory eluded them. Their title reign ended at 55 days on the March 7 episode of Raw, as RK-Bro reclaimed the championship.

At WrestleMania 38’s Day 2 on April 3, Alpha Academy attempted to recapture the titles from RK-Bro in a thrilling triple-threat match, also involving the Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford), but fell short in their bid for redemption.

Alpha Academy's Evolution

On the March 13, 2023, edition of Raw, a backstage encounter between Chad Gable and Otis took an unexpected turn when Otis was spotted participating in a photo shoot alongside the Maximum Male Models, a team managed by Maxxine Dupri. Surprisingly, Otis opted to join Maximum Male Models, igniting a rivalry between Dupri and Gable as they vied for Otis’s allegiance. This sparked a series of engaging segments where both Dupri and Gable attempted to sway Otis to their respective sides.

The tension between Dupri and Gable reached its peak on the May 15 episode of Raw when Dupri openly supported the Alpha Academy by cheering on Otis and Gable as they eliminated members of Maximum Male Models during an Intercontinental Championship number one contenders’ battle royal match.

As the weeks progressed, the Alpha Academy transitioned into fan favorites, eliciting increasingly positive reactions from the audience. Following extensive training, Dupri made her highly anticipated in-ring debut on the July 3 episode of Raw, teaming up with Gable and Otis in a thrilling mixed six-person tag team match against The Viking Raiders. Dupri showcased her skills by pinning Valhalla after executing a flawless sunset flip.

The storyline continued to unfold on the July 10 episode of Raw, where Alpha Academy celebrated Dupri’s graduation with a special ceremony. However, their joy was short-lived as The Viking Raiders interrupted, leading to a chaotic altercation resulting in Dupri’s cherished Alpha Academy letterman’s jacket being stolen by Valhalla.

Subsequent episodes saw intense confrontations between Alpha Academy and The Viking Raiders, including a “Viking Rules” match where Gable and Otis faced Erik and Ivar. Despite their efforts, Gable and Otis were defeated, but Dupri managed to reclaim her jacket, symbolizing a small victory for the team.

Dupri further solidified her place in the ring by securing a notable singles victory over Valhalla with a spectacular Japanese Ocean Cyclone Suplex on the July 31 episode of Raw. However, their triumph was short-lived as Imperium’s Gunther took offense to Dupri’s success, leading to a heated confrontation between Alpha Academy and Imperium.

The group’s dynamics evolved with the addition of Akira Tozawa as a “junior member,” as revealed in a Digital Exclusive preceding the October 23 episode of Raw. Tozawa’s integration into the stable led to intriguing developments, including a showdown with Bronson Reed and a memorable appearance at NXT: Halloween Havoc.

Despite facing setbacks, such as Tozawa’s unsuccessful bid to secure Noam Dar’s NXT Heritage Cup, Dupri remained determined to make an impact. Teaming up with Ivy Nile from Diamond Mine, Dupri competed in a high-stakes fatal-four way tag team match for a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship opportunity on the November 20 episode of Raw.

The rivalry between Alpha Academy and their adversaries intensified as Nile accompanied Dupri in a non-title match against Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley on the December 11 episode of Raw. Although Dupri faced defeat, Nile’s intervention underscored the loyalty within the group.

Dupri’s journey culminated in her debut appearance at the Royal Rumble event on January 27, 2024, where she entered as the 18th participant. Despite a valiant effort, Dupri was ultimately eliminated by the eventual winner, Bayley, after lasting over six minutes in the ring.
