Iqra Aziz - Career

Aziz embarked on her career at the age of 14, delving into the world of acting with the support of her elder sister. Her journey began with an audition as a television commercial model, and she was selected by the talent agency Citrus. Aziz continued to grace television commercials to this day.

Her breakthrough came when she caught the attention of Momina Duraid, co-producer at Hum TV, who offered her a role in the series “Kissey Apna Kahein.” In this project, she shared the screen with prominent actors like Arij Fatyma, Danish Taimoor, Shabbir Jan, and others.

Following this, Aziz took on a leading role in another Hum TV drama series, “Muqaddas,” an adaptation of Adeel Razzak’s novel of the same name. This series proved to be her turning point, earning her the Hum Award for Best Television Sensation Female. “Muqaddas” also received mixed reviews and was nominated for Best Television Play at the annual Lux Style Awards. In the same year, Aziz appeared as a parallel lead in Ilyas Kashmiri’s directorial, “Mol.”

In 2016, she played leading roles in “Socha Na Tha” and “Deewana.” In the latter, she portrayed the character of Mehar Sultana (Mehru), who befriends the mischievous yet lovable Jinn Falak (Shehroz Sabzwari) and eventually falls in love with him. Aziz also took on a supporting role as Marina Zaman in Ahmed Bhatti’s “Kisay Chahoon” and a parallel lead role as Mannat Chaudhary in “Laaj.” Her on-screen chemistry with Shehzad Sheikh in “Choti Si Zindagi” was highly praised, earning them a nomination for Best Onscreen Couple. The series also secured her a nomination for Best Actress at the Hum Awards.

Aziz then starred in “Gustakh Ishq” opposite Zahid Ahmed and made a guest appearance in the 2017 series “Dil-e-Jaanam.” She appeared in “Ghairat,” a series based on honor killing, alongside Syed Jibran and Muneeb Butt, and in the romantic drama “Khamoshi” opposite Zara Noor Abbas, Affan Waheed, and Bilal Khan. “Khamoshi” was both a critical and commercial success, with Aziz’s portrayal of the arrogant and greedy character Naeema receiving acclaim.

Aziz also made her mark on the fashion scene by walking the ramp for designer Aisha Farid’s collection “Crystalline” at Hum TV’s Bridal Couture Week. In early January 2018, she wrapped up the shooting of an Urdu music video, “O Jaana,” with Hamza Malik and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, which was released in July 2018. She also made a special appearance in Asim Azhar’s music video, “Jo Tu Na Mila.” The following year, Aziz collaborated with Shehzad Sheikh once again in Idream Entertainment’s “Qurban” (alongside Bilal Abbas Khan and Omair Rana). She portrayed the role of Heer, a lively young woman from a wealthy family, entangled in a love triangle with Sheikh and Khan.

Aziz gained further recognition for her role as Ajiya Nazakat (Jiya) in “Suno Chanda,” a finite series that aired during Ramadan 2018. She was paired opposite Farhan Saeed, and their on-screen chemistry received praise. The series garnered mixed reviews and earned her a nomination for Best Television Actress at the Lux Style Awards. She played the character of Tabeer in Hum TV’s “Tabeer.” Ahmed Sarym of The Express Tribune praised Aziz for her versatility in portraying a wide range of characters, from the exuberant Jiya to the vampish Naeema in “Khamoshi” and the titular character of “Tabeer.”

Aziz continued her journey with a remarkable role as Noori in Faiza Iftikhar’s “Ranjha Ranjha Kardi.” Her portrayal of Noori, a member of the lower cast of Untouchables, received acclaim from critics. In addition, she returned for the second season of “Suno Chanda,” directed by Ahson Talish and produced by MD Productions. This series, which aired in 2019 on Hum TV, further solidified her place in the world of entertainment.

Other work

Aziz has earned recognition as one of Pakistan’s most popular and highly-paid actresses, as acknowledged by the media. Her accomplishments include winning the Most Stylish TV Actor Award at the Hum TV Style Awards in September 2018. She also graced the stage at the Hum Style Awards, where she delivered a memorable performance alongside Farhan Saeed. Additionally, Aziz holds the role of brand ambassador for various prominent companies, including 7up, Nestle, Cadbury, and National Foods. Notably, in November 2018, she collaborated with model Hasnain Lehri to introduce OPPO’s A7 in Pakistan, assuming the position of brand ambassador for the same product. Her popularity extended to being featured in the Top 50 Sexiest Asian Women List by Eastern Eye and ranking among the most searched individuals on Google Pakistan in 2018.

Her significant contributions to Pakistani television were emphasized after the success of her roles in “Ranjha Ranjha Kardi” and “Suno Chanda.” The News International commended her for portraying inspirational female characters. However, in July 2019, a controversy emerged following the circulation of vacation photos from Iqra’s trip to Thailand in 2018, where she was seen wearing beach-appropriate attire. These images triggered negative reactions on social media, leading her sister, Sidra Aziz, to voice her concern on Twitter regarding the unfavorable comments.

Iqra has also made guest appearances in serials and talk shows, with her first guest appearance dating back to 2015 on “Jago Pakistan Jago.” In 2018, she graced “The After Moon Show,” a comedy-talk show, and “Tonite with HSY” as a guest. In May 2018, Aziz found herself embroiled in a news story after breaching a contract with Citrus Talent. Fahad Hussain, the Head of Citrus Talent, claimed that Aziz violated the terms of their agreement, which stipulated that she exclusively work on projects approved by the talent agency. In response, Aziz signed a contract with another PR agency, citing the lack of a copy of the breached agreement as a reason and alleging that it was used to withhold her rightful payments for several months. The dispute between the two parties was ultimately resolved with the assistance of their respective legal representatives. They issued a joint statement expressing gratitude to their lawyers for mediating and resolving the issues arising from miscommunication and misunderstandings. They also announced their intention to continue working together in the future, marking their reconciliation.

Personal Life

Aziz was born on November 24, 1997, in Karachi. In interviews, she has openly discussed her mother’s challenges as a single parent. Iqra initially pursued her education while juggling work, but she later decided to prioritize her acting career. In 2018, she expressed her intention to resume her education in the coming years.

On July 7, 2019, during the 18th Lux Style Awards, Aziz got engaged to actor and writer Yasir Hussain. They tied the knot on December 28, 2019. In July 2021, the couple welcomed their son into the world.
