Venom 3 (2024 Film)
Venom 3, the highly anticipated American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Venom, is in the works under the production of Columbia Pictures in collaboration with Marvel, and distribution by Sony Pictures Releasing. Serving as the sixth installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), the movie follows the storyline of its predecessors, Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021). The talented Kelly Marcel takes the reins as writer, co-producer, and director, alongside Tom Hardy, who not only reprises his iconic roles as Eddie Brock and Venom but also contributes as a producer.
The journey towards Venom 3 began when Hardy confirmed his involvement in a third Venom installment back in August 2018. By December 2021, following the release of the second film, development was already underway. Marcel and Hardy delved into crafting the script by June 2022, with Marcel later stepping into the director’s chair for her feature film directorial debut in October of the same year. Despite setbacks, including a halt in filming due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, production persevered. Filming commenced in late June 2023 in Spain, with plans to continue in London after the strike’s resolution. The film is slated for release in the United States on November 8, 2024.
As the project gains momentum, exciting developments continue to emerge. Pre-production work was underway as of February 2023, with Juno Temple in negotiations to join the cast in a lead role by April. In June, esteemed actor Chiwetel Ejiofor was confirmed to join the cast alongside Temple, as filming preparations geared up for a start in London. With each update, anticipation for Venom 3 builds, promising fans another thrilling chapter in the Venom saga upon its release in October 2024.

Development
In August 2018, star Tom Hardy announced his commitment to three Venom films. By September 2021, he hinted at potential crossovers between Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Director Andy Serkis expressed interest in directing another Venom film, emphasizing the need to delve deeper into Venom’s story before any potential meeting with Spider-Man. There were plans to explore the Ravencroft Institute and other villains within it.
In October, Tom Holland discussed the possibility of reprising his role as Spider-Man in future Venom sequels, following his cameo in *Venom: Let There Be Carnage* through footage from *Spider-Man: No Way Home* (2021). Producer Amy Pascal confirmed they were in the early stages of planning Venom 3. Sony Pictures officially confirmed the film’s development at CinemaCon in April 2022.
By June, Kelly Marcel was announced as the screenwriter for Venom 3, with Hardy co-writing the story. Marcel was also set to make her directorial debut with the film. The project was expected to conclude the Venom trilogy, produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Pascal, Hutch Parker, and Hardy. However, Serkis was unable to return due to prior commitments to *Animal Farm*.
Filming
In February 2023, Hardy announced that pre-production had commenced for the project. The following April, negotiations were underway for Juno Temple to take on a significant role in the film. As anticipation built, it was revealed that filming was slated to kick off in June in London, with Chiwetel Ejiofor joining the cast alongside Temple. By June, the film’s release date was confirmed for October 2024.
Principal photography officially began on June 26, 2023, at Los Mateos in Cartagena, Spain, and the Calblanque Regional Park, operating under the working title Orwell. Notably, Fabian Wagner, known for his work on Let There Be Carnage, took on the role of cinematographer. However, the onset of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike in mid-July caused a temporary halt in filming. Despite this setback, plans were swiftly rearranged, and a new release date of July 12, 2024, was announced. With the actors’ strike resolved by early November 2023, Sony adjusted the release once more to November 8, 2024. Production resumed on November 16, with the addition of Clark Backo to the cast in February 2024. As filming neared completion, Temple confirmed in the same month that the project was nearing its wrap-up stage.
Release
Venom 3 is now set to hit theaters in the United States on November 8, 2024. Originally slated for release in October 2024, the film’s schedule was adjusted, with a previous planned release date of July 12, 2024. This shift promises to build anticipation among fans eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Venom saga.
In April 2021, Sony inked agreements with both Netflix and Disney for the rights to their film slate spanning from 2022 to 2026. These deals encompassed theatrical releases as well as home media distribution. Netflix secured exclusive “pay 1 window” streaming rights, which typically span an 18-month period and include upcoming Venom films following the success of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Meanwhile, Disney acquired “pay 2 window” rights, granting access to stream the films on Disney+ and Hulu, in addition to airing them on Disney’s linear television networks. These partnerships signal an exciting future for Venom enthusiasts, ensuring multiple avenues for enjoying the franchise’s latest adventures.
