Jyothika Chawla embarked on her film career in the Telugu film industry, making her debut in the feature film Yuvakudu (2000), where she shared the screen with actor Sumanth. This marked the beginning of a successful journey in the South Indian film industry. Her second release, Kushi (2001), starring opposite Pawan Kalyan, became a box office hit, earning her the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu. She continued to make her mark in Telugu cinema with films like Okkadu (2003) opposite Mahesh Babu and Simhadri (2003) alongside Jr. NTR, both of which became top-grossing movies of the year.

Bollywood Debut and Recognition

After establishing herself as a versatile talent in the South, Jyothika took a leap into Bollywood with her first Hindi film, Tere Naam (2003), opposite Salman Khan. The film emerged as one of the top-grossing movies of the year, earning critical acclaim for her performance and nominations for Best Debut at various award ceremonies. She secured her first Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination and clinched the Best Debut trophy at the Zee Cine Awards ceremony.

A Prolific Career Across Languages

Subsequently, Jyothika starred in several Hindi films, including Run (2004) and Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa (2004), reuniting with Salman Khan. Her career also included roles in Silsilay (2005) and Dil Jo Bhi Kahey… (2005) alongside the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. She returned to Telugu cinema with notable films like Naa Autograph (2004) and Jai Chiranjeeva, both of which garnered acclaim and success.

In 2006, she appeared in the Tamil film Sillunu Oru Kaadhal alongside real-life couple Surya and Jyothika, which became a global hit. Additionally, she played a pivotal role in the Hindi film Family – Ties of Blood, acting alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. Her performance in the Telugu fantasy film, Mayabazar, further showcased her versatility . Her career continued to flourish with roles in various films, such as Gandhi, My Father (2007), Sathyabhama, Anasuya (2007), and Gangotri (2007), which included a sequel to a successful Bhojpuri film, where she starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan. Particularly, her role as an investigative journalist in Anasuya received critical acclaim, earning her a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress – Telugu and the Santosham Best Actress Award.

Exploring New Horizons

In 2008, Jyothika made her debut in the Punjabi film industry with Yaariyan, alongside Gurdas Maan, and ventured into the Malayalam film industry with Bhramaram, alongside Mohanlal. She continued to work in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films, including Thangar Bachan’s Kalavadiya Pozhudugal and Yagam, among others. 

In 2016, she appeared in the film M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, portraying the character of MS Dhoni’s sister and receiving acclaim for her role. Her work in the Telugu film MCA (2017) earned her the Best Supporting Actress awards at SIIMA and Zee Apsara . Jyothika also made an impact in the world of web series, debuting with Bhram in 2018, alongside Kalki Koechlin and Sanjay Suri.

Currently, Jyothika is actively involved in various projects across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema. Her upcoming sports action movie, ‘Seetimaarr,’ directed by Sampath Nandi, is highly anticipated. The film also stars Gopichand, Tamannaah, and Digangana Suryavanshi. Additionally, she is set to appear in two Telugu films, ‘Seetimaar’ and ‘Idhe Maa Katha,’ as well as ‘Operation Majnu,’ slated for release in 2021. Personal Life

Bhumika Chawla, born on August 21, 1978, into a Punjabi family in New Delhi, India, completed her early education in the same city. Her father, a retired Army officer, raised her alongside her elder brother and sister.

In 1997, she made the pivotal move to Mumbai, embarking on her career by appearing in advertising films and Hindi music video albums. Notably, she graced the screens in the Zee TV series “Hip Hip Hurray” and “Star Best Sellers – Fursat Mein.”

On October 21, 2007, Bhumika Chawla tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend and yoga teacher, Bharat Thakur, in a Gurdwara ceremony held in Devlali, Nashik. The couple later welcomed a son into their lives in February 2014.
