Ed Ford (Kentucky politician)

Edward Sinclair Ford Jr. (January 1, 1930 – July 2, 2010) served as a Kentucky Senator from 1978 to 1995. Initially elected in 1977 following the resignation of Senator Thomas Ward, who joined Governor Julian Carroll’s administration, Ed Ford opted not to pursue re-election in 1994. He passed away in July 2010 at the age of 80.

Career

Military Service and Achievements

Ed Ford served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, demonstrating bravery and dedication. His service earned him several military decorations, including 5 Battle Stars and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He remained a steadfast member of veterans’ organizations throughout his life.

Following his military service, Ed Ford established the Harrison Veterinary Medical Center in Cynthiana, where he practiced for twenty-five years. He later became the executive director of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, contributing significantly to equine medical research.

Leadership and Advocacy

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ed Ford dedicated himself to public service, serving on the Harrison County Board of Education for seven years and as a Kentucky State Senator for seventeen years. He was a champion for education, earning numerous awards and honors for his advocacy.

Ed Ford impact extended far beyond his professional and political spheres. His commitment to education, public service, and community development left an indelible mark. Funeral services honoring his life will be held at the Cynthiana Christian Church.
