Kalat Division, Pakistan

Kalat Division, also known as Qalat Division, is an administrative region within Balochistan Province, Pakistan. The division’s administrative center is located in Khuzdar, and it covers an expansive area of 140,612 square kilometers.

In 2015, the Balochistan Assembly passed a unanimous resolution urging the provincial government to create a new division called Rakhshan Division. This proposed division would encompass the districts of Nushki, Chagai, Kharan, and Washuk, which were previously part of the Quetta and Kalat divisions.


  • Kalat Division was established following the dissolution of the Balochistan State Union on October 14, 1955. During this transition, Khuzdar was designated as the divisional headquarters. At its inception, the division comprised four districts: Kalat, Makran, Lasbela, and Kharan.
  • In 1960, the Lasbela district was separated to form the Karachi-Bela division.
  • On July 1, 1971, the Makran district was detached from Kalat to create a standalone division.
  • In 1972, Lasbela district once again became part of the Kalat.
  • In 1974, a new district, Khuzdar, was carved out from the Kalat district and added to Kalat.
  • In 1991, the Mastung district was separated from the Kalat district and included in Kalat.
  • In 1992, the Awaran district was split from the Khuzdar district and integrated into Kalat.
  • In 2007, the Washuk district was established from the territory of the Kharan district and incorporated into Kalat.
  • On May 17, 2015, the Kharan and Washuk districts were shifted from Kalat to the newly established Rakhshan Division.
  • In 2017, the Surab district was created from the territory of the Kalat district and included in Kalat.
  • Most recently, in 2022, the Hub district was separated from the Lasbela district and added to Kalat.
